Introduction
The Street Children Ministry is an indigenous non-profit and interdenominational organization. It is registered as a National organization with South Sudan’s Relief and Rehabilitation Commission. The ministry is concerned with street children who were scattered by the persistent political war that took place in the country between 2013 and 2018. This war led to displacement of 1.5 million people, both within South Sudan and in neighboring countries.
Due to circumstances such a loss of parents, parental abuse, alcoholism, youthful rebellion and a range of traumas resulting from the war or intercommunal and tribal fighting, many children have become homeless and are vulnerable to social risks and hazards such as substance abuse, theft, and human trafficking.
The homeless children we serve, ranging in age from 5 to 19 years old, see their situation as being hopeless. They roam the streets searching for means of survival by polishing shoes, begging, collecting scrap metals or bottles, etc. They spend their nights outside on the veranda of the shops.
We seek to offer these street children compassionate care. We have therefore established a ministry to help them prepare for a better and productive life ahead, providing them with training in life skills. We seek to minister to the whole person, introducing them to Christian discipling for spiritual transformation.
Our passion is to help these children and our country by redeeming young lives from the trauma, hunger and illiteracy that has tragically characterized their experience so far.
Vision
“The transformation of street children in South Sudan through the gospel and discipleship”
Mission
